I have used this software for more than ten years since it first came out. I must honestly say I am thrilled with what it offers.
One of the biggest mistakes I have made is that I bought the software and didn’t use its full potential.
I will begin this review by explaining what PT4 is.
What is Poker Tracker 4?
It is software that records and stores hand information about you and your opponents. Based on that information, it creates various game statistics which can help to improve your game.
The statistics allow you to adjust your game as you play.
Poker Tracker, together with Holdem Manager, was one of the first software out there to help players track and analyze their game.
Today both tracking programs belong to the same company, and the difference between those two systems is not as big as it used to be.
Poker Tracker 4 is the most recent and sophisticated version of the program, which has been developed and improved over the years.
Why should you use tracking software?
Without tracking software and its features (HUD in particular), you will find it difficult to read your opponents and adjust your game, especially if you play more than one table simultaneously.
How can Pokertracker 4 improve poker your game?
The massive number of available stats and reports will provide in-depth insight into your and your opponent’s game.
Thanks to HUD, you will see live, during the game, all the information about your opponents.
By analyzing the stats and reports, you will find out the following:
- In which spots you lose money
- What poker hands you lose with, and from which positions
- What types of games are your most profitable. I was recently surprised that my most significant profits for the past few months came from 6 Max Hyper SNGs.
- How often do you fold to steals, c-bet, 3bet, and 4bet
- Which poker networks are your most profitable
- How are you doing in all-in-hands against your opponents
- How many hands per hour do you play
- If you play too many hands
- How aggressive do you play from various positions (pre-flop and post-flop)
- and much more
Additionally, all of the above information is also available about your opponents. And the more you play against them, the more information you will collect about their playing tendencies and styles.
The information listed is only a tiny portion of what an online poker tracker monitors.
PokerTracker 4 is an essential tool for any serious online poker player who wants to improve their game and move to the next level.
How to install PT 4?
Installation is automated as soon as you download the software.
As part of the installation, you will have to install SQL, which will be used to record your and your opponent’s game.
The installation is straightforward and shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes.
No matter how long you played before installing the program, you can still import your old hand history and review the stats.
Once installed, the software will collect your playing history from your computer, which the poker rooms store.
Most poker sites and networks allow pokertracker to collect your playing history (you can see the complete list of supported sites and networks at the end of this article).
Remember that it is crucial to import hands from your old database because the more information you have about your opponents, the higher the chance you can outplay them.
The interface
The software’s interface has several menus and three standard tabs:
Community – gathers all of your valuable resources in one spot. Tips, guidelines, and downloads are readily available to help you tailor your playing.
Play Poker – shows your hands and tables live while playing. Allows you to get hands from Disk/Email and configure poker sites and networks.
View Stats – calculates and presents your playing statistics in various forms (graphs, summary, hand range visualizer).
What are the main features of Poker Tracker 4?
It has many functions that can improve your hand analysis and winning ratio.
The main ones include:
Live HUD Stats
Heads Up Display (HUD) is a part of the software that displays statistics about your opponents on the table while playing.
Thanks to HUD 4, anytime you decide on your next action, you don’t have to search for the information in the tracker.
That’s why HUD is the most beneficial tool of PokerTracker while playing.
There are many statistics and information that you can show in the Heads Up Display.
You can see the complete list of the stats at the end of this article.
Nevertheless, the most popular are:
PFR – Pre-Flop Raise – The percentage of hands where the player made any raise pre-flop.
AF – (Preflop/Flop/Turn/River Aggression Factor) – shows how passive or aggressive the player is on each street.
BB – number of big blinds
CBet Flop/Turn/River – Continuation Bet on Flop/Turn/River
VP$IP – Voluntarily Put Money in the Pot
Att To Steal – Attempted to Steal from late positions and Small Blind
These and other stats can all be set up for both cash games and tournaments and are fully adjustable.
Playing without it, you are at a massive disadvantage, especially if you simultaneously play more than one table.
How to build your HUD in PT?
There are some Heads Up Displays included in this poker client.
However, you can create your own, and I advise you to do that once you get familiar with this software.
♣ Get custom, color-coded HUDs for cash games and tournaments at the end of this post. ♥
The reasons why it’s helpful to create custom HUDs are:
- You know your game best and can add the stats that are important to you and remove the ones that you never pay attention to
- Some ready HUDs could be outdated and not applicable to the specific games you play (for example, Hyper-Turbo 6 max)
- You will know exactly where the stats are located.
To create a new HUD profile, go to:
- ‘HUD”
- ‘Edit’HUD Profile’
- A ‘new window will open.
In that window, select:
- ‘New ‘group.’
- To add the statistics, click on the + sign and select the stats you want.
Don’t be afraid to play with the creating functions of HUD. You can do it as much as you want and always return to existing profiles.
If you are new to poker, you should stick to one of the ready-made HUDs until you get familiar with the game.

Custom Report creation
One of PokerTracker’s four most valuable tools is the possibility to create a custom report. You can build any sort of report using statistics.
How to create a pokertracker 4 report?
To access the reports go to:
- ‘View’Stats’
- ‘My Reports’
- then click ‘New ‘report.’
- You can choose to create reports for both Cash Games and Tournaments.
After clicking on ‘New Report,’ you will have to choose one of three available options:
- Player Report – shows stats for a single player.
- All Players Report – shows stats for each player in the database
- Hand Report – presents a list of stats for each hand (one raw = one hand)
In the next step, select how your report should be grouped.
You will see all the available stats you can add by double-clicking on the left-hand side.
Below the statistics box, you can filter the results by the type of game, date, buyin, blinds, etc.
I like that filter option because you can get stats for all the specific games you can imagine, including:
- Bounty
- SNG
- Shootout
- Rebuy
- Fats
- Satellite
- Deep
- Steps
- Fifty50
- AnteUP
- Lotter
- Re-entry
- Flipout
Statistics
You can see your playing statistics and those of your competitors by clicking on:
- ‘Viev’Stats’
- ‘Statistics’
There is an option to select Cash Games ($) or Tournaments.
Like in ‘My Reports,’ you can filter your game statistics.
Also, from that window, you can customize your statistics according to your needs.
How to customize your pokertracker 4 stats display?
To make your Poker Tracker more user-friendly and use only the stats that are important for the games you play, you can customize it in the following way:
- ‘View Stats’
- ‘Statistics’
Move the cursor to the statistics window – right click and select – ‘Configure Report.’
You can double-click on any of the stats in the ‘Configure Report’ window to remove them. If you want to add any new stats, select them from the window on the left side.
Graphic display
You can display a range of different graphs to visualize your game statistics.
Again, you have the option to show various kinds of graphs thanks to the available filters.
Holdem Hand Range Visualizer
Another handy graphical tool to display your and your opponent’s ranges is the ‘Hand Range Visualizer.’
To display the ‘Hold’m Hand Range Visualizer,’ go to:
- ‘View Stats’
- ‘Statistics’
In the ‘Report,’ scroll down and select the Holdem Hand Range Visualizer.
In the displayed hands’ image, the darker the color of a hand, the more you played that hand.
On the left, you have ‘Heat’Map Statistics,’ which shows you different game scenarios.
PokerTracker4 – Tips And Tricks
Assign color ranges for your HUD
Pokertracker 4 gives you the option to assign color ranges to each HUD statistic.
So, for example, if your opponent’s VPIP (Voluntarily Put In Pot) is higher than 45, you can set the software to change the VPIP to green, pink, or whatever color you like.
To do that, click:
- ‘HUD’
- ‘Edit HUD Profiles.’
- Select the statistic you want to update the range color for, and in the top right corner, click:
- ‘Color Ranges’
- ‘Edit’
Change the colors of the HUDs box
This poker software allows you to assign colors to the HUDs box of your opponents.
You can do it, for example, based on their playing styles (red=aggresiive, green = fish, etc.).
Just click on the ‘note box’ while playing and select one of the colors beside the player’s name.
Display the stats of your opponent
PT allows you to quickly look for any player you have been playing against and copy their winning strategy.
Copy the winning players’ stats
You can find players with the highest winnings by going to:
- ‘View Stats’
- ‘My Reports’
- ‘New Report.’
After clicking on the ‘New Report,’ a window will pop up. Select the option for ‘All Players Report.’
You will then see all the players you play against and their winnings.
Filter the winnings column (‘My C’Won’) to see which of your opponents is the highest winner.
Assuming you have a good number of hands on them, you can review their game using the build in hand replayer and copy their playing style.
The most important stats and information you will want to look at (depending on the type of games they play) include:
- VPIP & PFR
- Aggression stats on all the streets
- Steal number
- Bet sizing
- What do they do on different board textures?
- Do they target specific players?
And most important, DO NOT play against those players. Instead, find the weak players that lose the most and play against them.
As bad as it sounds, the only way to be profitable in poker is to play against players with lower skill levels.
Find the fish in PT4
To find the fish in your tracking database, you have to do the same things I described above, just in the last step, filter by the highest losers rather than winners.
Recommendation – Pros and Cons
The main functions of Pokertracker four that I use are HUD and statistics to find my leaks and those of my opponents.
Poker is a game where analyzing data, patterns, and information is the most important, and pokertracker is the best tool to help you with it.
To stay ahead of the competition, you must review your sessions, analyze your opponents’ game and learn from your mistakes.
This is why the latest version of pokertracker is essential in today’s competitive online poker world.
There are also some cons that I have found in this program.
One is that it can be quite resource-intensive, so if you have an older computer, it might not run as smoothly as you like.
Also, it should be noted that the software is not free – you will have to pay a one-time fee of a minimum of $69.99 to use it (full pricing at the end of the article).
Nevertheless, if you want to improve your online game, there is no better way than to get proper online poker software, and pokertracker 4 is one of the best ones, if not the best.
Free custom HUD
Since you have survived until the end of this article, I want to reward you!
I have created two color-coded HUDs, one for the tournaments and the other for cash games.
You can download them from my personal Google Drive by clicking on the below links:
To upload the custom HUDs click on
- ‘HUD’
- ‘Edit HUD profiles’
A window will pop up.
In that window, click on ‘Options,’ as shown in the below screenshot, and select ‘Import Profile.’
While playing, the time to make a decision is limited.
That’s why being able to see the stats clearly is crucial.
To make it easier to use, I have added various colors and organized them in chronological playing order: Pre-Flop→Flop→Turn→River
- PF stats are green (ATS-Attempt to steal, FS-Fold to steal, F3B – Fold to pre-flop bet, 3BF – three-bet flop),
- VP and PFR are light green since these are the two most important stats.
- Flop stats are orange (FFCB – fold to flop c-bet, CBF -c-bet flop, DF – donk flop).
- Turn stats are pink (FTCB – fold to turn c-bet, CBT – cbet turn).
- River stats are yellow (CBR – c-bet river, FRCB – fold to river c-bet).
- Blue – total stats (AF – total aggression factor).
After uploading the stats to your tracker, you should play with them a little to ensure you know each stat’s location and meaning.
I have selected the most important stats for each street. Maybe you can consider adding the following:
- Preflop Squeeze,
- WWSF: Won When Saw Flop ,
- WSD: Won Money at Showdown,
- WTSD: Went To Showdown
But it really depends on what stakes you play. If you play games up to 25NL, then the one I created will be enough.
